Modern black corrugated-metal house with large windows in a forested setting and a wooden front door.

Mr Bruce goes to Washington

Since Helen passed 5 years ago, I have been looking for a house in WA interesting enough to lure me away from the wonderful home I have in AL. About 3 weeks ago, this one came through my Zillow filter near Carnation, a small town about 1 hour West of Seattle:

Modern dark-siding rectangular house with large windows surrounded by tall evergreen trees in a forest.

Built in 2020, it has great views south to Mt Ranier:

White wicker chairs arranged around a stone fire pit with a mountain view framed by trees.
Bright living room with large windows offering forest and mountain views; gray sofa, white armchairs, and glass coffee table.
Dining room with a dark rectangular table, six green chairs, driftwood centerpiece; large window overlooking trees.

Only 1.5 bedrooms, but is a good fit for 1.0 Bruces:

Bright modern living room with white walls, light wood floors, gray sofa, and glass railing overlooking stairs.
Modern kitchen featuring green cabinetry, marble backsplash, stainless steel fridge, wooden island, and three black bar stools.
Bright modern bedroom with a king bed, white bedding and patterned quilt, two nightstands with lamps, and a large window overlooking trees.
Open-concept kitchen and dining area with green cabinets, marble island, and a wooden staircase leading to a lofted area.

Zach and Liz gave it a visit, and I joined in via video. Seemed like a good fit, so in less than 1 week, I did the same crazy thing I did with the UT house, put in an offer without having seen it in person, and the offer was accepted!

I close next week, 11/12, so I have spent the last few weeks pruning, packing, cleaning:

Shirtless man wearing a headlamp and glasses adjusts tangled cables in a cluttered home workshop.
Cluttered kitchen counter with a wooden chessboard, folded blue blankets, canvas art, and a rolled blue mat.
Disassembled black metal bed frame on a wooden floor in a living room with a stone fireplace and a large white tent nearby.
Shirtless man in jeans points at a spice rack on a kitchen counter.

I left my old bed mattress so I could fit in my sauna, and a neighbor took my cold tub:

Man in a gray shirt with safety glasses holds a power drill in a workshop beside a large wooden cabinet.
Stacked glass window and door panels lean against a stone wall on a wooden deck beside a U-Haul sign in an outdoor, wooded area.
Bruce bending over a white outdoor bathtub on a wooden deck, with two friends smiling nearby.

Ordered and fully packed 2 U-Haul U-Boxes, picked up 2 days ago:

Open wooden moving container filled with blankets, boxes, and plastic totes; door displays “Packing & Loading U-Box Containers” sign.
Orange U-Haul U-Box moving container on a leaf-covered forest road in autumn light.
U-Haul rental trailer on a residential street with autumn trees and fallen leaves.

The garage is ready for a charity truck, and the curb is ready for a garbage truck:

Cluttered residential garage/workshop with suitcases, boxes, shelving, ladder, and assorted tools by large garage windows.
Black trash bags and scattered debris on a white platform beside a leaf-covered wooded trail.

I start my 5-day drive from AL to WA this weekend, less than a month after seeing the listing. My next challenge is to see how many of these plants I can load into my car after loading in my computer and other essentials:

Monstera and other potted tropical plants on a wooden deck with a metal railing and fallen autumn leaves.
Cluttered glass desk workspace with two monitors, keyboard, microphone, gadgets, and coffee cups.

A new adventure awaits!

Bruce

Yeah, direct flights from SEA will be nice. Not sure that will be enough to coerce hermit me into traveling more 🙂
