border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px auto; display: block; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px\" border=\"0\" alt=\"100_0918\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/brucewinter.net\/~brucewi2\/photos\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/100_0918_thumb.jpg?resize=352%2C266\" width=\"352\" height=\"266\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Tiffany had fun playing with a small gecko lizard, until it leaped up into her shirt sleeve.&#160;&#160; It was quite entertaining to watch them try to get it out:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lh5.ggpht.com\/-hJHBKSC_wmg\/UQW7epy5AUI\/AAAAAAAAK7M\/fyFjvmv4rUs\/s1600-h\/DSCN5385%25255B3%25255D.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"DSCN5385\" style=\"border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px auto; display: block; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px\" border=\"0\" alt=\"DSCN5385\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/brucewinter.net\/~brucewi2\/photos\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/DSCN5385_thumb.jpg?resize=353%2C266\" width=\"353\" height=\"266\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Near the end of their stay Zach spotted a lion fish, which has an interesting story.&#160;&#160;&#160; Native to coal reefs in Indonesia, they now are an invasive species along the East coast and the Caribbeans, with 10x the population they natively had.&#160;&#160;&#160; Based on DNA evidence that shows most of them are decedents from just 3 females, the current theory is they came from 6 lionfish that were washed into the Atlantic in 1992 when Hurricane Andrew smashed a public aquarium.&#160;&#160; They are pretty, but the spines are venomous:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lh5.ggpht.com\/-DcVyYPyda7s\/UQW7f_z0MRI\/AAAAAAAAK7c\/g2Ddb5dRyLo\/s1600-h\/100_0885%25255B3%25255D.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"100_0885\" style=\"border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px auto; display: block; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px\" border=\"0\" alt=\"100_0885\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/brucewinter.net\/~brucewi2\/photos\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/100_0885_thumb.jpg?resize=353%2C266\" width=\"353\" height=\"266\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>They lay thousands of eggs a week year round, other fish can\u2019t eat them, and they eat other fish up to 2\/3 their own size!&#160;&#160; So they have become a problem, so anyone is allowed to kill them.&#160;&#160;&#160; At least that was Zach\u2019s theory.&#160;&#160; He lobbied hard trying to convince the rest of us to go on a hunt.&#160;&#160; Tiffany was the most reticent, I think something to do about the poisonous spines and the \u2018no fishing or we put you to death on a bed made of by sea urchins spine\u2019 signs that were all over the place (I forgot the exact wording):<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lh6.ggpht.com\/-4uTbtWuneRA\/UQW7hK-EbYI\/AAAAAAAAK7s\/_TtqZvgh-PA\/s1600-h\/DSCN5388%25255B3%25255D.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"DSCN5388\" style=\"border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px auto; display: block; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px\" border=\"0\" alt=\"100_0991\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/brucewinter.net\/~brucewi2\/photos\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/100_0991_thumb.jpg?resize=353%2C266\" width=\"353\" height=\"266\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, the fish had moved on the morning of the hunt, Z&amp;T\u2019s last day there.&#160;&#160; The fish was back to the same spot the next day, but I didn\u2019t have the same ambitions (i.e. courage) as Zach, so I left him alone.&#160;&#160; We tagged the spot with a marker, so in theory the the local dive shop to take care of him eventually.&#160; <\/p>\n<p>We got back home, after barely plowing our car thru deep snowdrifts in our drive at 2 am, to find the science experiment I had left on the kitchen counter proved that egg yokes, unlike egg whites and potatoes, have built in preservatives and never die (the guy in the corner was a Helen crafted monitor to make sure the egg didn\u2019t cheat):<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lh4.ggpht.com\/-aqapjQXS6Ww\/UQW7jbQdkEI\/AAAAAAAAK8M\/vomAFuDhKng\/s1600-h\/DSCN5436%25255B3%25255D.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"DSCN5436\" style=\"border-left-width: 0px; And we have had tons of snow since then, so it was time for some fun:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lh4.ggpht.com\/-_V_RzdYk8aI\/UQW7kSWp7uI\/AAAAAAAAK8c\/wnUd5kCL_UY\/s1600-h\/DSCN5461%25255B3%25255D.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"DSCN5461\" style=\"border-left-width: 0px;
