First up was Wenatchee WA, a pretty fruit growing town on the Columbia river:<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-gYnm-USjuog\/VawZdgFawPI\/AAAAAAAEzKU\/8g6aaAqYHNc\/s1600\/20150629-0065.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/brucewinter.net\/~brucewi2\/photos\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/20150629-0065.jpg?resize=640%2C360\" width=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: left;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: left;\">We had bad timing, as the town started burning down the day we landed. &nbsp;This is night shot from our hotel room &#8230; 30 houses burned down that night, including one of the ones that I was considering buying! &nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: left;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-yPVWsQxPn8g\/VawUAzpuwWI\/AAAAAAAEzFM\/Ch8zE83b4rk\/s1600\/20150629-0019.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; text-align: left;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: left;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: left;\">That fire was mostly out in that neighborhood by morning, and nobody was hurt, but the hillside was blackened:<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: left;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-sQ33TnWIihQ\/VawUDMhdYtI\/AAAAAAAEzFk\/XbckS6knw7s\/s1600\/20150630-0077.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; text-align: left;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: left;\">Some embers flew downtown and started a big fire in a fruit box manufacturing factory. &nbsp;That black smoke includes fumes from an ammonia tank that blew up in the fire. &nbsp; We were supposed to stay inside, close windows, and turn off the AC. &nbsp; I went for a hike and held my breath instead:&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: left;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-y5EnAiZZcuA\/VawUA9D4r1I\/AAAAAAAEzFQ\/AaWVlIExXB8\/s1600\/20150629-0041.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/brucewinter.net\/~brucewi2\/photos\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/20150629-0041.jpg?resize=640%2C480\" width=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>There were big chunks of charcoal ash scattered all over the city:<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-8GePfW2CAVc\/VawUBfzyi9I\/AAAAAAAEzFY\/th5cMkW3Xqw\/s1600\/20150629-0070.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/brucewinter.net\/~brucewi2\/photos\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/20150629-0070.jpg?resize=640%2C360\" width=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>A nice town, with a great Neurology group, but like Missoula seems too small to support an Epileptologist. <\/p>\n<p>Next stop, after a 4 hour midnight layover back home with a lonely doggy, was Birmingham AL:<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-BvOcJbhERNk\/VawUE53aH3I\/AAAAAAAEzFs\/jyF8flT8iy4\/s1600\/20150702-0104.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/brucewinter.net\/~brucewi2\/photos\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/20150702-0104.jpg?resize=640%2C360\" width=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>The Statue of Liberty inspired local metal workers to build one of the Roman god Vulcan for the 1904 worlds fair:<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-AdP9EJ6Vi5A\/VawUE00cbOI\/AAAAAAAEzFw\/k-qa6AObbbI\/s1600\/20150702-0111.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"358\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/brucewinter.net\/~brucewi2\/photos\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/20150702-0111.jpg?resize=640%2C358\" width=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>It is the largest cast iron statue in the world, 56&#8242; tall (the Statue of Libery, 151&#8242; tall, is made with copper):<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-mc1oAqTcHOw\/VawUFzOf2aI\/AAAAAAAEzF8\/HiMxHQTYd4M\/s1600\/20150702-0127.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; text-align: center;\"><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-i3hkTc4eD6Y\/VawUHi7WsjI\/AAAAAAAEzGI\/ycCgREFsPXo\/s1600\/20150702-0143.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 1em;
