It’s been 2 years since Helen left us. I get an unexpected amount of joy from many of her Tchotchkes (trinkets, knickknacks, baubles). I have them scattered all over, inside and out:
New year, new tree carving, this time on the only beech tree in my yard:
This tree was off the beaten path, so I had an excuse to create a new path š Before and afters:
Roots quiver at the sight of my mighty shovels:
The deck had some rotted spots. Eventually will need replacement, but for now I strategically plasticized it:
I unstuck some stuck keys on Mr Piano:
One of the tricks I use to get down to eating only one meal a day is drinking. The good kind š Water is good, but there are plenty of healthy low-calorie drinks. My current go-tos: golden milk (turmeric), cocoa, frothed coffee (mostly decaf), matcha green tea, Earl Grey tea:
Closing custom, artsy stuff:
Bruce
I’ve got to start drinking more! Well done. I also want to plant more beech trees.
Beech trees are great trees, pretty bark, nice canopy, and leaves that hang on all Winter. I’d be tempted to try planting some also, but they are pretty slow growing.
You can tell Helen had a sense of humor with her Tchotchke which had no idea was a word. Thanks for the lesson. Iām intrigued by your forest you have got a name for it? Never heard of Turmeric milk interesting the others I could probably tackle. Glad you are still adventuring. Take care
Never thought of giving my backyard forest a name … good idea! Pretty much anything would be more interesting than “my backyard” š Thanks for the note.
You could call the backyard forest The 40 Acre Wood (please substitute how ever many acres you have). Obnoxious literary reference, probably to Winnie the Pooh.
Had to look that one up. Winnie-the-Pooh’s 100 Acre Wood, also called simply “The Wood”, which works better than my ‘2 Acre Wood” š
Hi Bruce – just found your blog through your YouTube channel (found the passive solar water battery). Really appreciate your work and look forward to making my way through your videos. You are living my retirement dream – a home in the woods carving trails for a daily dose of nature. Enjoy!!
Thanks for the note, Jason! I’ve stopped making videos for now, finding that playing in my backyard forest if keeping me busy enough and more enjoyable š
