I broke last year’s count of 117 backyard plants, this year: 152! I made a poster:
Also made a how-to video:
More detailed lists of our backyard menagerie are at brucewinter.net/iNaturalist .
I got this idea of camping overnight in our backyard, but then I got to thinking about snakes and mosquitos. So I dug out a platform for a cot and tent.
Then I got to looking at screened gazebos instead (better views) so I had to enlarge the platform. Dead tree roots are stubborn, but no match for my come-along:
Also ran into a few big rocks and discovered you have to use your brain when deciding what to anchor your come-along to!
Big trees are much better anchors:
I eked out a 10’x12′ platform and laid down some flooring to keep the forest from re-claiming it:
This is our internet-ed gazebo, tune in next month to witness its birthing:
Aya and Eric have settled into their new place. Amazing city views, which the cat seems not to care about:
Helen had a coronavirus exposure at work, so we masked up and kept our distance for a couple of weeks:
Seems we were spared, although I did have a virus sighting in the forest:
I enlisted the help of various forest creatures to wave goodbye to 2020 … looking forward to 2021:
