After much reflection I concluded I am not a dog person. The doggies were not getting from me anywhere near the attention they got from Helen. With the help of some friends, we found a young and loving family for them, so I loaded up all their gear and said goodby:
I also concluded I’m even less of a turtle person. I got over 30 craigslist responses when finding a home for him:
I AM, however, a plant person, so I converted the outside turtle pen into a mini-forest. Helen’s favorite plant was the AL state tree, the LongLeaf Pine. We have one next to her by the waterfall and now, complements of our backyard forest, we have another 20+ scattered about in pots:
Aya, Eric, and I collected a bunch of stuff for donation. Big trucks cannot make it up our driveway, so I had an excuse to get some exercise:
Closing with a flower, a beetle, and some slow-mo bees (click play for some interesting audio):

Less clutter more life!
That a beautiful yard. Very cool 🌳 trees. It will nice to have your garage back its so amazing how fast it fills up though. Great shots & videos
Thank you for sharing, Bruce.
I often think of Helen and the last time I saw her and you in the fall of 2021. Still struggling with the thought that she is no longer with us. Happy to hear that the doggies have found a good new home and that you have been planting trees — so appropriate for celebrating life!
Goodbye Devochka and Bunny! Helen would be happy, the new family looks very loving!
Bruce,
Sad to see the little guys go, but it’s the right decision finding homes for them where they could get the attention Helen was able to provide. The pines look perfect.
Thinking about you guys all the time.
