Mushroom with a light brown cap and thick stem growing among green plants in a garden.

Shroomsvile

Posted on July 1, 2026July 1, 2026 by brucewinter

I diverted some creek water to create a deck fountain and then hacked in water control valves into my house’s brain so it can optimize the lovely sound of running water:

Cluttered electronics workbench with bowls of parts, wires, boards, and various hand tools including a yellow hot glue gun.
Blue solenoid valve attached to green pipe with red and black wires in dirt beside bricks.
Plant in a black pot on a railing, water flowing from a spout into it, forest behind.

A new momma had an overnight in the Owl Box Hotel:

Bat resting inside a wooden nesting box, curled up among straw-like nesting material.
Bat nestled in a wooden nest box, close-up of its fur and facial features.

Hopefully they will fare better than these guys:

Rusty, dirt-covered human jawbone with exposed teeth buried among leaves and debris.
Jawbone fragment with molars resting on a rocky surface.

This guy is still decoding my bird feeders:

Wallaby clinging to a wooden post inside a sheltered area, profile view of its face.
Squirrel clinging to a hanging bird feeder, nibbling at the feed cone amid a green leafy background.

And my dinos are always happy:

Unlike a young Zach on a bad day: “I don’t want to make ANY faces!”

Backyard has turned into Shroomsvile (lots of rain):

Mushroom with a light brown cap and thick stem growing among green plants in a garden.
Pale blue-gray mushroom with exposed gills growing from rocky soil.
Bright yellow sulfur shelf fungus (Laetiporus) on forest floor among leaves and twigs.
Red-capped mushroom with brown stem growing on a mossy tree trunk in a forest setting.
Mushroom with lavender gills on a mossy forest floor, white stem and brown debris.
White bracket mushrooms with honeycomb pores growing on a moss-covered log.
Snow-covered mushroom with a rounded beige cap and pale stem emerging from green ground-cover plants.
White curved mineral formation with orange rust stains in a dark cave.
Two pale pink mushrooms with white gills growing from a mossy log.

And a couple of non-shrooms beauties:

White spider lily (Hymenocallis) bloom with long slender petals and orange anthers in a garden.
Young green plant sprouting from a cracked log with fresh leaves at the top.

Most of them are pretty quiet ๐Ÿ™‚ I suspect most of them are eatable, but I’m not brave enough to try.

Hi Bruce. So fun to see the old video of Zach! Your photos are great. Do you know the name of the very tropical looking flower? In the world of Mungers, I just got back from taking my mom to her summer place in Maine. Other relatives are going to look after her for July and August there, sine we are headed to Albuquerque for a BABY shower for Rachel in July, and back there again for an expected birth in early August. Tom also heads to VT for his 50th HS reunion in about 3 weeks. -Janet

The flower is a spider lily. They love water, which I have! Congrats on upcoming baby!
